NYU Rhythmic Impulse : Samulnori & pungmul Korean percussion
NYC's only collegiate samulnori and pungmul performance group since 1987.
Who we are
Rhythmic Impulse at NYU is NYC's only collegiate organization dedicated to the exploration and performance of Korean percussion music. We focus on samulnori, a modern genre that arranges four instruments in a seated ensemble for the stage, and occasionally perform pungmul, percussion music played outdoors or standing.
Founded in 1987, NYURI is one of NYU's oldest student organizations. We perform at events and cultural showcases across NYU and all over New York, and we've always put community first: people of every background and experience level are welcome at our practices and performances.
